My driveway gate motor was acting up recently, where when I pressed the button on the remote the gate would not open. I have a Centurion D3 motor running the gate and I believe this model has been discontinued.Symptom:When pressing the remote for the gate the gate doesn't open or it staggers while opening or it opens very slowly and stops. When you press the remote button you can hear the motor unit clicking, this means that the circuit has received the remote signal and tries to engage the motor.Problem:The slow blow fuse could be gone or the battery could be dead.Solution:Open the housing cover.
Check if the slow blow fuse is blown, also check if the other fuses are gone as well.If the fuses are ok then the problem is the battery. The motor itself runs of the battery and not the power supply. Test the battery with a multi meter to check if it's holding its charge. If it's not then replace the battery, it's about R130. If you have an alarm system in your house then take the battery out of the alarm system and connect it to the gate motor, they usually use the same battery, which is a 12v battery.
Remember to disconnect the main power before swapping the battery. Then test if the gate opens properly. Anybody having problems with their DSTV remote control i.e.
Certain buttons are not working? Well I've got a simple solution. My decoder and remote is quite old now and I occasionally had a problem with my Exit button on my remote. It was quite annoying when looking at the info on a program and then not being able to get rid of that pop up information.I searched online and a new one was going to set me back a hundred bucks. There was no way I was going to do that. So I decided to strip my remote to see what the problem was.Once stripped I noticed that their was a lot of oil build up behind the contacts, use a tissue paper to clean this up. Find the Exit button contact on the under side of the keypad, you will notice that there is a slight bit of wear in that area. Clean it up with the tissue paper and then gets a tiny piece of foil from your kitchen and cut it up so that it just makes it to wrap around the Exit button contact.
Re-assemble your DSTV remote, pop in your batteries a. I am an MTN contract subscriber and I found that it was a bit difficult to keep good control over my 3g data usage. Sure you can load data monitors to track how much you are using but is it real control or just a monitoring service.FNB has come up with a fantastic solution to this problem, Pay As You Go data for contract subscribers in the form of FNB Connect Surf. How it works is you have to register for FNB Connect first, then activate your sim card for the Surf service.
You then load the FNB Connect Surf APN settings on your phone and switch your data settings to the new APN. Once this is done you can top up your Surf account with airtime and start browsing on your phone.Depending on you bank account status you get specials on data cost, I get 30c per mb for the first 50mb and thereafter 59c per mb.
